San’e Isla – A Socio-Cultural Project
San’e Isla is a community-driven, socio-cultural project initiated by Pro Lagun, created to raise awareness about the current situation in Lagun, Bonaire. The project gives a voice to the people of Lagun and highlights concerns that directly affect the health, environment, and future of the community.
At its core, San’e Isla is about visibility, responsibility, and unity. Through music, imagery, and collective participation, the project aims to inform the wider public—locally and beyond—about what is happening in Lagun and why it matters. This is not a commercial initiative or a political campaign, but a volunteer-based cultural expression rooted in community involvement and care.
The project unfolds in multiple phases. It begins with the release of an original audio piece, premiering on local radio and online platforms, followed by a video production filmed on location in Lagun. The video shoot will take place on January 17 and 18, bringing together adults and children from Lagun and surrounding areas.
To maintain a strong visual and symbolic message, all participants are required to follow a strict dress code:
full white only — a plain white shirt with no prints or logos, white pants, and white shoes or white flip-flops. Participants who are not fully dressed in white will not be able to take part in the filming. White is used deliberately to symbolize unity, truth, and collective responsibility.
The video production is led by Sendion Balentin, a well-renowned filmmaker from Bonaire with extensive experience across the ABC islands. By working with real people in a real environment, the project documents a moment in time and transforms it into a lasting cultural statement.
San’e Isla is entirely powered by volunteers—participants, creatives, and supporters—who believe that raising awareness is a shared responsibility. Through this platform, Pro Lagun will continue to share updates, background information, and developments related to the project.
We invite visitors to listen, watch, share, and engage—because the future of Lagun is not just a local concern, but a shared one.
